Surprise View

Just past the famous Ashness Bridge, clamber up the hill to the right from the road to experience the rewards of Surprise View, perched high on an oak-lined cliff edge overlooking the whole of Derwentwater.

You can see how great ice sheets carved out this impressive landscape: you have an uninterrupted view across Derwentwater and on a clear day you can even spot Bassenthwaite lake, onto the Solway and the distant shores of Scotland in the distance!
