Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum

Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum

Situated in a microgranite quarry, the museum has been open now for ten years. The quarry itself is a RIGS site and displays contacts between the “Skiddaw Slate” and the granite intrusion, as well as other fascinating features.

A 45 minute guided tour will let you experience coffin levels, candles and total darkness.

Ride on a Steam Locomotive ‘TOM’ – a narrow gauge railway which has breathtaking views of Blencathra and the surrounding fells.
