Theatre by the Lake

Theatre by the Lake in Keswick is Cumbria’s only year-round producing theatre, described by The Independent as “the most beautifully located and friendly theatre in Britain.”

Theatre by the Lake stages up to nine of its own productions a year in the Main House (seating 389) and Studio (seating 92): classic plays, adaptations of great books; contemporary drama; regional premières and world premières; Christmas plays for all the family.

Six productions are staged in repertory in the Summer Season (May-November), performed by a resident company of up to 14 actors. The theatre also hosts festivals of jazz and film, and welcomes visits from drama, dance, opera companies and music groups of all kinds.

The theatre has a cafe and restaurant, where daytime and evening refreshments are available – from light snacks to pre-theatre suppers.

Adequate free parking is available after 7pm.
